Key Statistics

New referrals for child abuse and neglect decreased 6% in 2023. Alleged child victims decreased 8% and the number of substantiated victims decreased 10%.  The number of new cases opened for ongoing services declined 8%.  The number of new children entering custody decreased by 8%, but the average number of children in custody each month increased by 5%.
